I just learned of Dr. Kistemaker's passing. I had him for three classes at RTS, and I have especially valued his commentary on Revelation. One thing I remember him saying is "And THAT will preach." It was good to study the scripture academically, and it deserves such careful study. But he always had in mind that the scripture was first and foremost a MESSAGE, not just a topic of study. That's what he meant when he would say, "And THAT will preach."

Although we had known the name for years and years, it was our pleasure to finally meet Dr K and Jean a couple of years ago. We hope to see you again one day Jean, and although we met Sam at the evening of his life, we enjoyed listening to his stories, and sense that you had a wonderful life together. Our sympathies to the family as well, especially Ed and Joyce whom we had the pleasure to meet as well. Richard and Linda de Boer

I had the privilege of being a student of Dr. Kistemakerstudent at the Master's course in New Testament at the Presbyterian Seminary Rev. José Manoel da Conceição, in São Paulo, Brazil, in the 1980s. He was also my dissertation supervisor and to do research and receive instructions I was invited by him to stay at his home in Jackson, and to make use of the RTS library and facilities. He and his wife welcomed me at that time as a son for 3 months in their home and there I was able to experience the generosity and Christian love that characterized their life. I am very grateful for what he and his wife did for me and I thank God for their lives and for their example of simplicity, generosity and Christian love. Praised be the Lord for a life as fruitful and blessed as he lived! My thoughts are with Mrs Kistemaker and her family.

It was our joy and great privilege to know Dr. K as both a brother in Christ, a careful exegete, and a wonderful teacher who faithfully led the SALT class at Orangewood for many years. Brilliant as a scholar, he was unusually straightforward in answering questions clearly; while capable of interacting to whatever depth a student could handle, he was a humble man, careful not to stretch his opinion beyond what the Scripture would support. He was bold and forthright, yet gracious toward those who would disagree. He delayed publication of one commentary because he knew some would object to his position, and he wished to minimize division within the Body. We enjoyed reading his autobiography some years back - a book is always more interesting when you know the Author; Dr. K had ability to rightly divide the Word, making believers feel that way about the Bible! (The Bible had about 40 writers; it had ONE Author.) Dr. K's dad had been sad that he had not gone into business with him in Canada; now reunited in heaven, we are certain that both now see God's blessing extended tremendously through the life and faithful scholarship of Dr. K. We rejoice that they are now in that great cloud of witnesses, with their Blessed Savior at God's Right Hand. We now pray for Jean, the great woman behind this great man, who served the Church and her large family for decades with Christlike grace and absence of fanfare. May God continue to add His blessing to all the Kistemakers.

Way too many memories to limit it at just one... Uncle Sam piling hay bales in the 1970s... back then he often said "if my memory serves me well..." and it invariably did! / Uncle Sam leading a family wedding anniversary celebration and proclaiming God's faithfulness / cutting up firewood with an electric saw / driving many, many thousands of miles in a station wagon, then in a Dodge Caravan that became a 'camper' when the second and third rows of seats were taken out / teaching us and our kids that it's not polite to say no to an offered candy even if it's not good for your health / gifting us with his commentary on II Corinthians / visiting a Russian ship in the port of Montreal. Uncle Sam touched innumerable lives in wonderful ways.

A great teacher. He was excellent at giving devotions. He had a good sense of humor and was gifted in teaching biblical Greek. I'm sorry for his family's loss, but we rejoice together that he is with Jesus now.

Dr. K. was a Brilliant Scholar, humble man, and gentle soul, God use him to changed the course and direction of many lives. He was our Teacher and a friend. He and Mrs. Jean allowed us into his home and take care of his Orchides when we needed most. Never preached to us but simply demonstrated the love and acceptance of Jesus. His influence on the lives of many, many of whom are in ministry now. Well done, good and faithful servant. Mrs K we love you and miss you very much. Serving in Rome, Marty & Gloria Banzhaf

I was so blessed by the teaching of Dr K in our Sunday school class. I learned so much and loved talking to him and sweet Jean every chance I got. I don't think there was anything Biblical that he could not answer. I praise God for their presence with us at Orangewood for so long! God must love us a lot:heart: Praying for dearest Jean. They were a real team and godly example to me.

Dear Jean and Family: Marge and I are saddened to learn of Dr K's passing, yet rejoice that he is in the arms of Jesus. We are privileged to know you both and enriched by the instruction Dr K provided many years as our Sunday School leader. We warmly remember how much Simon enjoyed the white grapes New Years Eve several years ago at our home. The warmth of fellowship with you and Dr K that evening is a memory we cherish.
Our sympathy and deep respect

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Jean and the entire Kistemaker Family. We have many fond memories of teachings by Dr. "K" in our Community Group in Oviedo and numerous Sunday School Classes at Orangewood. He made the book of Revelations come alive! May the Lord be with you.
