Obituary of Charles "Charlie" Guercia, Jr.
Charles "Charlie" Guercia, Jr. 83, of Seminole, Florida passed away December 12, 2023. He was born on April 18, 1940 in Manhattan, New York to Charles and Rosalia Guercia. Charlie grew up in Staten Island, New York and graduated from New Dorp High School and later attended Wagner College. He married the love of his life, Eileen (Kelly) Guercia, they were together for 43 years until her passing. Charlie and his family moved to Seminole Florida in 1977.
He was a plumber by trade. Charlie was also a talented line drawing artist; he did portraits of each of his children and grandchildren, which remain displayed in their homes. He was an avid golfer. As he got older, his goal was to “shoot his age” – he often used golf as a metaphor for life in teaching life lessons to his children and grandchildren. A beloved coach to a multitude of youth soccer teams, Charlie loved sports. He served his community and church as a greeter and could make anyone smile! He made friends wherever he went. He could make a friend in a Walmart parking lot!
To his family, he was “Pop Pop” or “Pop”; his legacy is his vast family. He focused that legacy on the following blessing which became his mantra:
Blessing for a Family
We are a family. For one another,
We are love and trial,
Strength and trouble,
Even when far apart,
We belong to one another and,
In various ways, we remember
And pray for one another.
We join now to give thanks to our God
And to ask God’s blessing
On this family-
Those who are present
And those who are not.
