Obituary of Gregory Alan Shontz

Gregory Alan Shontz, 54, a resident of Seminole, Florida passed away after a short battle with cancer, on July 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 10, 1969, the son of David and Bonneva (McGrath) Shontz in Greenville, Pa. He grew up there until moving to Florida in 1983. He graduated from Pinellas Park High School in 1987. He attended one year at St Pete Jr College as music major. He then went to PTEC Clearwater where he graduated as an architectural designer. He had his own business of drawing residential homes, and then had a partnership, RS Designz. He also drew the plans for the 9/11 Memorial for the City of Madeira Beach. He pursued his career with NURoom Corporation, CSJM Architects, Inc., and then CORE STATES Group where he was employed until July of 2023. Besides his wife and children, he had two interests in his life…that of music and the Tampa Bay Lightning. His love of music took him on many paths. He was a member of Blue Stars Marching Band at Pinellas Park High School. As an adult, he joined The Awesome Second Time Arounders Marching Band of St Petersburg where he was the percussion section leader for several years. His next dream was to be a Rock Star. The first Rock band was Flip the Bird of Pinellas. The last band was Twisted Revolvers. As a drummer, his passion, loyalty and talents were admired by local musicians. He was dedicated to anything he pursued. He was a hard worker. He lived by and proclaimed the motto “work life balance”. He touched many lives. Greg was a great son, brother, husband to Dawn M Shontz (Smith) and proud father to his son, Zachary David and daughter, Cadence Ann of Seminole, Fl. He is survived by his wife, Dawn M Shontz (Smith), son Zachary David, daughter Cadence Ann, his parents David and Bonneva Shontz (McGrath) of St Petersburg, Fl., Mother–in-law Norma Holz of Largo, Fl., and brother-in-law Thomas Smith. He has many aunts, uncles and cousins that all loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his maternal and fraternal grandparents and his brother Dustin Shontz. Celebration of Life for Greg will be held on Sunday August 6, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 at Seminole City Park (Parkview Room). 7464 Ridge Road, Seminole, Fl. 33772 “Keeping the Beat in Heaven”, he will never be forgotten. May his memory be forever held in the hearts of those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the musical endeavors (drumming and baton) of his children Zachary and Cadence.
