Obituary of Clifford George Nenoff

Clifford “Joe” George Nenoff, 90, of Largo, FL passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021. He was born in Massena, NY on April 24, 1930 to the late Dick "Docho" (of Bulgaria) and Anna Mae Thompson Nenoff (daughter of Sarah & Loren Thompson), he was the second eldest of his siblings, and predeceased by his sisters, Helen Hoyt, and Janette Eleanor Nenoff Bellows; and brothers, Leonard Nenoff, Clark Nenoff, and George Demoff. He attended Norfolk High School and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. The Nenoff family was related to the Akwesasne St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Chief Paul O. Thompson family.

Cliff/Joe served in the Army National Guard for 10 years from 1947 to 1957 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his military service, Cliff/Joe worked several years as a Production Foreman at three major Buffalo companies: International Paper, Carborundum Corporation, and American Diamond Tool.

Cliff was a dedicated member of St. Theresa church (the ‘Silk Stocking’ Parish) in Niagara Falls, NY for over 40 yrs. where he was very active in Catholic Charities. After his first wife of 37 years, Violet Ann Jacob of Niagara Falls, NY, passed in 1988 from lung and brain cancer, Cliff met and married his second wife, Ilean Elizabeth Hoover on June 7th, 1992 in Las Vegas, NV. Shortly thereafter, Ilean, Cliff, and his son Joseph headed South to the Northeastern coast of Florida to reside in the Tampa area for warmer weather.

Cliff has always been a lover of golf and prided himself on a fun game with friends and always eager to teach anyone with interest. He introduced his wife Ilean to golf and coached her into a competitive player and enjoyed golfing together for years. He took a job shortly after retiring to Florida to stay busy at Highland Lakes Golf Course in Palm Harbor, FL where he worked in Golf Course Maintenance for 14 yrs. and ultimately retiring in July 2020.

Cliff celebrated his 90th birthday last  April and Ilene turned 91 this February.  They stay active with a love of traveling, visiting relatives and friends, and getting in a golf game or a few baskets of golf balls, grilling a nice steak dinner, having some fresh corn on the cob and some non-alcoholic (NA) beer! Joe can always be remembered as a smiling, happy guy who was always had a positive outlook and treated his family and friends well.

Predeceased by his first wife Violet Ann Jacob (born Oct 18, 1925 and passed in October 1988) in Niagara Falls, NY, he is survived by his second wife, Ilean Elizabeth Hoover from June 7, 1992 (29 years); and Violet and Clifford’s son, Joseph Richard (Inetta/Fauchy) Nenoff of Madeira Beach, FL, their children Mia and Kayla, a great niece Bella.

Jacob/Nagelhout Family: Matthew (Bridgette) Jacob (Syr. NY); Richard (Rebecca) Jacob (Buffalo NY), Joseph (Loretta) Jacob (Niagara Falls NY) and Randy Jacob (Buffalo, NY); Dr. John (Shirley) Nagelhout, Dr. Robert (Julie) Nagelhout, Mark Nagelhout, and Maureen Nagelhout (deceased) (all of Los Angeles, CA), along with several nieces and nephews.

Ilean’s children: Sam and Joan Hoover (Lewiston, NY), Thomas Hoover (Buffalo, NY), Irene & Mark Schmidt (Niagara Falls, NY), Arlene O’Mara (Panama City Beach, FL).; and many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Clifford will be cremated and laid to rest with full military honors at Bay Pines National Military Cemetery (Veterans Administration Center) 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Pinellas County (9 mi.
